Orchestra
The orchestral program at UM includes the University Orchestra and Missoula Symphony. The University Orchestra is the major performing ensemble for string students, providing those selected by audition with orchestral training and experience. In addition to on- and off-campus appearances, the orchestra collaborates with University choirs and the UM Opera Theater, premiers original works by student composers, performs accompaniments for winners of the annual Student Concerto/Aria Competition, and hosts an on-campus festival. The Missoula Symphony Orchestra is a joint project of the Department of Music and the Missoula Symphony Association. This orchestra annually performs a series of subscription concerts as well as youth concerts for area school children. Music Department faculty perform as principals in several sections, and advanced UM students, selected by audition, play in the MSO.
