The third annual Mountain Computer Music Festival at the University of Montana features a
new work for Irish folk instruments and real-time computer processing, written for the festival
and performed by Michael Theodore, as well as two of his pieces for computer-processed sound
and projected animation. Also featured is a piece for trombone and real-time computer
processing, composed and performed by University of Montana alumnus Christopher Stark.
Other guest works include two movements for computer-generated surround-sound, by French
composer Pierre Alain Jaffrennou. University of Montana student works include two pieces for guitar
and computer, by Tommy Pertis and Mike Gollins, and a work for real-time computer synthesis and
projected animation, by Jahsek Arthisus. Faculty works include a piece for tenor saxophone and
real-time computer processing, and three movements for computer-processed sound with projected
video of the dance they accompany, by Charles Nichols. The audience is invited to bring lawn chairs
or a blanket to sit on, and a picnic to enjoy during the concert.
