About Us
CMENC (Collegiate Music Educators National Conference - MENC) is the student chapter of the National Music Education Association (MENC). The University of Montana Chapter # 49, open to all University of Montana students, is an active group of approximately fifty students interested in music education. Dr. Mary Jane Belz, Associate Professor of Music Education, is the chapter’s faculty advisor.
The purpose of Chapter # 49 is:
1) To acquaint the individual student with the workings of both the Montana Music Educators’ Association (MMEA) and the National Music Education Association (MENC).
2) To encourage the individual student to attend the state conference of MMEA as well as the regional and national conferences of MENC.
3) To give University of Montana CMENC students the possibility to network with CMENC students at other Montana colleges and universities. Chapter members meet annually with members of other Montana colleges and universities CMENC chapters at the MMEA convention.
4) To sponsor events and activities which will increase members’ understanding of the many facets of careers in music education.
