The Dance Program offers a diverse selection of hands-on teaching opportunities. B.F.A.
Teaching Track majors have taught in a variety of community venues for their senior projects,
ranging from local studios to public schools to organizations like Head Start.

Creative Movement for Children in Studio Settings
We have a Children's Lab in which UM students get first-hand experience teaching children
from ages 3 to 12—without ever leaving the dance building!

K-12 Public Schools
Service learning courses allow students to connect classroom pedagogy with real-life
experiences in public school classrooms.

Beginning Technique Classes
A dance major may assist in a beginning level college technique class, in the style of his/her
choice.

Adults with Disabilities
Each semester we offer a dance class for adults with developmental disabilities. Students
enroll for credit to participate as aids in this lab course.

Flagship After-School Dance Program
Flagship is an after-school program offered at Missoula area elementary, middle and high
schools. We regularly place students in the age level of their choice, to teach creative
movement, jazz or hip hop to youth.

Teaching Projects
We believe everyone should have opportunities to dance, so we encourage our students to
forge new teaching opportunities for new populations. In the past students have taught in
pre-schools, nursing homes or senior citizen centers, parent/child classes, or
multi-generational dance classes.
